JBoss joins ESB movement

Open source middleware provider rolls out Enterprise Service Bus

Written by Tom Sanders in California

Middleware firm JBoss has unveiled a new Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) application to integrate and connect web services.

The platform offers data consistency by creating a combined view across an enterprise. The technology is also an important component of service oriented architectures.

There are numerous ESB products available in the market today from vendors including BEA, IBM and Sun Microsystems.

The ObjectWeb open source conglomerate received a major code donation last week from French IT services firm Bull to speed up development of its ESB product.

The Red Hat subsidiary's JBoss ESB 4.0 application is part of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite.

It supports a series of messaging services including HTTP, FTP, email and the Java Messaging System.

Service registry and discovery is handled through the Java API for XML Registries and UDDI standards.

The ESB application is currently available as a release candidate. A final product is slated for release next month and Red Hat plans to offer the software with subscription support early next year.

The software supports Linux, Solaris and Windows.
