The iPhone 3G Poll asked: 'Does the new 3G version make you more likely to buy an iPhone?'

Over 470 readers responded in just two days, nearly three quarters checking one of the 'Yes' options.

The results show that the new price of £99, or free on higher contracts, is the biggest driving force for adoption (32 per cent) followed by the inclusion of 3G (25 per cent).

Built-in GPS is the deal maker for around 12 per cent of respondents, and just four per cent are swayed by the ability to use third-party applications.

I shall keep my fingers crossed that there's no hidden agenda

However, 14 per cent of readers highlighted the superiority of smartphones from rival manufacturers, and 12 per cent registered their general aversion to all things Apple.

Commenting on the iPhone 3G's unveiling, one reader using the name 'gabbby' described the handset as awesome and "exactly what I wanted".

Others were not so easily swayed. Referring to O2's free upgrade option, 'Cole Stevens' wrote: "I shall keep my fingers crossed that there's no hidden agenda, that Apple is truly sorry for the pain and suffering it's put us iPhone users/fans through and that the new 3G iPhone is everything the original iPhone is not and everything the iPod is."
