O2 has confirmed that the iPhone 3G will be available this month on a pay-as-you-go tariff.

The only UK mobile operator with the latest version of Apple's handset said that the iPhone 3G will be available without a monthly contract from 16 September through O2 outlets, Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores.

Launched in June this year, the iPhone 3G adds to the handset's existing features with support for high-speed mobile networks, built-in GPS for navigation, and a Cisco-compatible VPN for business customers.

The 8GB iPhone 3G for Pay & Go will cost £349.99, while the 16GB version costs £399.99.
