Adobe claims major AIR milestone

Over 25 million application installations of runtime technology

Written by Phil Muncaster

Adobe has claimed a milestone of 25 million installations of applications deployed on its Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) technology.

AIR was launched in February this year and is designed to let developers use existing technologies including Ajax and Flex to build and deploy rich internet applications on the desktop.

The technology enables firms to deliver a richer branded experience because it removes the need for browser panes around content.

Large multinationals such as AOL, eBay and Nasdaq have already jumped onboard by deploying apps on AIR to engage better with customers and produce more dynamic content, according to Adobe.

"In just the first six months since release, we are already witnessing the creation of a brand new ecosystem, established by a rapidly growing base of web developers who are discovering new ways to quickly build compelling applications using Adobe AIR," said Michele Turner, vice president of product management for the platform business unit at Adobe.
