Nokia is expanding support for Microsoft Exchange email to all its S60 third-edition handsets.

The handset firm said that all its corporate E-Series and multimedia N-Series devices will have this capability out-of-the-box in the future.

A total of 43 Nokia devices will now be capable of operating the Mail for Exchange mobile email application that uses the ActiveSync protocol, giving Nokia the broadest range of devices to have this support, the firm said.

Companies using Nokia handsets may now be able to expand mobile email access to a broader swathe of their workforce.

Nokia users can set up Mail for Exchange using the email set-up plug-in on the phone's home screen, by launching the application from the Download folder or via the Settings Wizard.

Users will incur no additional service or subscription fees beyond use of their network data plan to access emails, Nokia said.

"The costs of mobility are contained, as companies are able to utilise existing Microsoft Exchange infrastructure," said Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice president of Nokia's Markets unit.

"There is also the strong possibility that a large number of employees already have one or more of the 43 Nokia devices that enable Exchange ActiveSync."

Nokia claimed that its handsets offer access to features not available from other vendors that have licensed ActiveSync support.

These include the ability to set email priorities, alerts for meeting request conflicts and a standalone global address list application.
