Mobile firm Orange is to undertake a new programme designed to assess its
environmental impact.
The company has announced a partnership with the World Wildlife Fund in which
the telco will make a detailed audit of how its landline and mobile services are
affecting the environment in France.
Starting later this month, Orange will begin using a five-point scoring
system on each of its products and services. The company will display the scores
in French retail outlets and on its website.
Categories will include CO2 emissions, use of hazardous materials, energy
efficiency, use of recyclable and renewable materials, and waste reduction.
"With this environmental rating system, Orange is stating its desire for
transparency in the marketing of its products," the company said in a statement.
"This initiative is an important part of a partnership signed between Orange
and WWF France in March 2008 that aims to speed up the implementation of the
group's environmental strategy initiated in 1996."
